What Evidence Act Section 27 covered
Allows so much of the information received from an accused in police custody as relates distinctly to a fact discovered in consequence of it to be proved, whether or not it amounts to a confession.
What changed in BSA Section 23(2)
The discovery rule is no longer a separate section. It is the proviso to BSA Section 23(2), which itself bars confessions made in police custody unless made in the immediate presence of a Magistrate. Cite it as the proviso to Section 23(2).

The BSA applies from 1 July 2024. Under Section 170 of the BSA, an application, trial, inquiry, investigation, proceeding or appeal that was pending immediately before that date continues to be governed by the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
