    What Evidence Act Section 154 covered

    Allows the court, in its discretion, to permit the person who calls a witness to put any questions to that witness which might be put in cross-examination by the adverse party. This is how a party examines a witness who has turned hostile.

    The provision is carried over as BSA Section 157 without substantive change.

    The BSA applies from 1 July 2024. Under Section 170 of the BSA, an application, trial, inquiry, investigation, proceeding or appeal that was pending immediately before that date continues to be governed by the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
